The church was consecrated in the 1222 in the presence of the king Frederick II. The current Gothic facade was recovered thanks to a recent restoration that had removed another Baroque front. Noteworthy is the central rose-window.

It is a Neoclassical 2 storeys per 5 bays palazzo. It has a regular banded rusticated ground floor and a square stuccoed piano nobile. The central bay is decorated with an architrave surmounted by a broken segmental pediment framed with two spirals.
