Trullo Sovrano
Foto Alberobello: Trullo Sovrano
The Trullo Sovrano (king trullo) is one of the most interesting and well preserved trullo in Alberobello. Trulli are dry stone walls constructions used mainly as store houses or dwelling utilized in Apulia since early ages: they are part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. The thick walls provided perfect insulation against cold or hot weather. The Trullo Sovrano is the only two floors trullo in Alberobello and is the finest example of 18th century's trulli. The roof is made with big stone cones topped with pinnacles. This building hosts a museum.

St. Cosmas and Damian has an eye-catching front featuring a recessed entrance topped with a lintel and a porcelain decorated lunette framed in a temple-like single arch portico. This cypto porticoed entrance has two small pilasters supporting the archivolt and two Corinthian columns surmounted by a massive pediment. Two bell towers adorned with steeples are on the aisles.
