St. Nicholas Pilgrim Cathedral is a masterpiece of Apulian Romanesque style, lying majestically on an inlet's tip overlooking the Adriatic Sea. It was built in the characteristic pale pink local limestone. The facade features an engraved blind loggia pattern surrounding the main entrance; noteworthy are the original bronze doors. The mullioned rose window is beautifully ornamented. The tall campanile is set on a sort of side narthex erected at the end of the left aisle. The bell tower features a complex pattern of augmenting lights set in correspondence of each storey; the higher is the floor, more numerous are the windows. The bell tower is surmounted by a spire.

Frederick II Castle |

Frederick II Castle is a remarkable and elegant fortress suggesting of Arab influence. It was built in 12th century by Emperor Frederick II whose son, Manfred, choosed the castle as his favorite resort where he celebrated his wedding with Helena Angelina Doukaina, Queen of Epirus. The castle is provided with two sea towers overlooking the harbour. The main gate, constituted by a limestone bridge crossing a dich, is opposite to the sea, in Manfred Square.
