Geography |
Tuscany borders Emilia-Romagna to the north, Liguria to the north-west, Tyrrhenian Sea to the west, Umbria and Marche to the east, Lazio to the south-east. The territory is mainly hilly and is covered by the Tuscan Apennine chain along the borders with Liguria and Emilia Romagna. The valley of the Arno River and the Versilia, to the north, and the Maremma, to the south, are the main regional plains. To the west, in the Thyrrenean Sea, is the Tuscan Archipelago including 7 islands protected as part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. |
