It was built by the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II, remodeled by the Anjou and renovated several times due to many damages subdued. The eye catching facade features an impressive archivolt portal depicting the life of Christ, flanked by two lion-pillars and topped by a highly decorated rose window with 15 mullions. The church is surmounted by two bell towers and a balustrade.

The Palazzo is located in the very centre, in front of the cathedral. It is divided into three levels. The first floor is Palladian like, with a Doric colonnade. The upper level features windows decorated with a pattern of segmental pediments alternating tympana. The 3rd floor has only windows topped with lintels. The roof is adorned with a cornice fashioned with friezes.

The historic centre of Altamura features a particular town planning pattern composed of claustri, which were built in order to ensure the safety of citizens from outer attacks. This is one of the main alleys, leading to the cathedral.
