Many fountains were spread along the royal state roads in order the travelers could take shelter; the fountain was restored and expanded by Charles III in the 18th century. On the background you can see the town hospital.

Norman Castle |
|
The Old Castle was built in Lombard age and expanded during the Norman period. As documents tell us, the castle was very safe thanks to its position and to its massive walls. In the picture you can see one of the four towers and the perimetrical defensive walls.

Basilica Cathedral |
|
The Old Cathedral, centre of the town life, was stricken by many earthquakes and pillages and then it was restored many times. The Romanesque façade features three rose windows set on the top of the three bronze portals. Noteworthy are the high-relieves carved in the lunettes representing St. Ottone and St. Elzario. In the center you can see Our lady of the Assumption to whom the church is dedicated.
