St. Peter's Basilica and theTevere |

The Basilica is placed on the left bank of the Tevere and it is in the State of Vatican City territory. According to the tradition it was built on St. Peter Apostle's Grave. The impressing dome called the "Cupolone" has a diameter of about 43 meters and was planned by Michelangelo. In close-up St. Angel bridge, one of the most beautiful bridges on the Tevere, it has 5 arches and is flanked by the Angels' statues.

The Fountain leans on the façade of the Poli Palace and was built between 1732 and 1762, on Nicola Salvi's project. According to a popular tradition, those who throw a coin certainly will come back once again in the city. In a famous scene of Federico Fellini's movie, "La Dolce Vita", Anita Ekberg bathed in the fountain. In the centre there is the impressing statue of Ocean.

In the square's centre it is placed the Marco Aurelio's Column, built between 180 and 196 b.C. to celebrate Marco Aurelio's triumph over the Marcomans, the Quads and the Sarmatias, victories represented on the engraved spiral bas relief. The pillar is 42 metres in height. On the back, the Wedekind Palace, historical headquarter of the daily newspaper "Il Tempo". In the background The Chigi Palace, seat of the Italian Government .
