The Estensi Gardens and the Estensi Palace, close to the city centre, are a main Varese attraction: the complex was the summer resort of Francis III d'Este. Varese was actually considered to be a pleasant rural town in Lombardy, where aristocracy built stately homes and luscious gardens.

View of the St. Vittore Basilica bell-tower, colloquially known as "Bernascone", after the name of the architect who projected it in the 17th century. It is a remarkable Baroque work featuring many flourishing decorations and patterns. The rosy color was typical of the late baroque age.

In the picture you can see the so-called Broletto; this name refers the Town Hall in medieval northern Italy. In the middle is the courtyard flanked by an arcade with pointed round arches decorated with interesting medallions.
