Emperor's Castle
Foto Prato: Emperor's Castle
The Emperor's Castle, also known as "the Fortress", was built for Frederick II of Suabia, the Holy Roman Emperor, by Apulian masons. The castle has a rectangular plan, four crenelled squared angle-towers and an hexagonal tower in axis with the donjon.
Saint Stephen Cathedral

Saint Stephen Cathedral is a remarkable example of Tuscan Gothic-Romanesque style, whose main feature is the green and white marble strip motif covering the front. The portal's tympana were engraved by Andrea Della Robbia. Important Renaissance masters such Filippo Lippi, Paolo Uccello and Agnolo Gaddi had frescoed the naives.
Palazzo Pretorio
Foto Prato: Palazzo Pretorio
Palazzo Pretorio is the Town Hall. It is actually constituted by two slightly different medieval buildings, one made in stonework, the other in brickwork. The main feature of the palace is represented by the "Tuscan windows". Such lights are constituted by two round arched or trifoiled windows framed into another blind arch. The Gothic niche in the north facade housed a Robert Anjou statue, now kept in the inside, where the Civic Museum's collections are displayed.
