Etymology (name origin)
Umbria means land of Umbri the Oscan tribe that lived that area before the Roman colonization.
Geography
Umbria borders Tuscany to the west, Marche to the east and Lazio to the south. Its territory is mostly hilly or mountainous. This region’s backbone is the Apennine Chain, to the east; the highest peak is Monte Vettore, 2476 m high. Its hydrography is characterized by Tiber valley basin and the Tiber’s tributaries.
