As hometown of Leonardo, the Vinci piazza shown in the picture is ornamented with a wooden sculpture engraved by Mario Ceroli after the Vitruvian man, the Leonardo's drawing that calculated the canon of proportions of the human body.

The church was originally built in the 12th century but has undergone numerous alterations like the erection of the campanile and the restoration of the facade in Renaissance revival style. Both occurred between 19th and 20th century. A sculpted alt relief is in the portal's lunette.
