Town Hall (Hotel de Ville)
Foto Aosta: Town Hall (Hotel de Ville)
Town Hall building (called "Hotel de Ville") stands in the central Chanoux square named after a valdostane resistance martyr. The building is in neoclassical style; and it was built and projected in 1839 by architect Michelangelo Bossi. Two statues representing the Dora Baltea and the Buthier, the two region's main water courses, are placed on the portico. In the upper part of the picture you can see the civic coat of arms, in the top left corner there is a clock and in the top right a sun-dial.
August Arch
Foto Aosta: August Arch
The picture shows the Monumental August Arch realized in 25 B.C., when the town was founded. It is impressive and magnificent; it stands close to the Buthier brook; it was built to remember the roman victory against Salassi. The Latin heritage is still very strong; actually the medieval city's shape was modeled after the roman insulae. In the background you can see the majestic Alps.
Cathedral front particulars
Foto Aosta: Cathedral front particulars
In the picture you can see a remarkable colored high relief carved in the Amalfi Cathedral front's tympanum; the façade features several sculptures and frescos. The Cathedral has been rebuilt several times, but that has not affected the original structure.
