St. Andrew's Basilica

St. Andrew's Basilica is undoubtedly the town's symbol: it was erected by Cardinal Bicchieri between 1219 and 1227. It is a Romanesque monument reminiscent of the French and Cistercian style, epitomized by the tall and spired bell towers. Noteworthy are the engraved and richly archivolted portals. In the central one is a remarkable lunette sculpted by Benedetto Antelami, an Italian Romanesque master, representing the martyrdom of St. Andrew.
Visconti Castle

The Visconti Castle was built by Matteo Visconti in 1290. It is characterized by massive watching towers provided with embrasures and murder holes. In the Napoleonic era served ad a bivouac. Then it was turned into a jail and became a justice court in 1838.
Piazza Cavour

Piazza Cavour, dedicated to the important Italian politician, was called Piazza Maggiore until 1864, because was the main square in town. It is surrounded by remarkable buildings such the clock tower, formerly St. Thomas' campanile, the Broletto (city council) and the Angel belfry. A Cavour statue, designed by Ercole Villa and Giuseppe Argenti is in the centre.
